About Dr. Daya

Mr Sheraz Daya is the Medical Director of Centre for Sight, a leading private ophthalmic facility in the UK. Recruited from New York in 1993, he served as Director and Consultant at the Corneoplastic Unit and Eye Bank at Queen Victoria Hospital, where he transformed the service into a globally recognised centre of excellence for corneal surgery. He left the NHS in 2011 to focus entirely on private practice and innovation in ophthalmology.

An internationally respected key opinion leader, Mr Daya has been featured on The Ophthalmologist’s Power List of the world’s top 100 ophthalmic surgeons in 2018, 2019, and 2020. He is the founding Chief Medical Editor of Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today, and serves on multiple industry boards and scientific committees.

A pioneer in stem cell transplantation, lamellar corneal techniques, and refractive surgery, Mr Daya has authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications and numerous book chapters. He is a sought-after speaker at international conferences and has delivered prestigious lectures including the Whitney Sampson (USA), Fyodorov Award (Greece), W. Bruce Jackson (Canada), and Choyce Medal (UK).

His leadership and contributions have earned him the NHS “Leadership in Improvement” Award (2009), the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the AAO and the International Society of Refractive Surgery (ISRS). He currently serves as President of the American-European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery (AECOS).
