About Dr. Farid
Marjan Farid, M.D. is the Director of Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery at the Gavin Herbert Eye Institute, University of California-Irvine. Her Board positions and consulting expertise drive innovation in anterior segment pharmaceuticals and devices contributing to informing the strategic decisions for a product from concept through clinical research. In addition to her clinical and strategic expertise, Dr. Farid serves on Compensation and Governance Committees, ensuring alignment with the board’s mission and fiduciary responsibilities.
Her surgical expertise established her as a leading international KOL in cornea, cataract, and refractive surgery, advancing anterior segment innovation with global strategics and startups. Dr. Farid is active on the national ophthalmic education platforms and currently serves on the Leadership Committee as the Chair of the Cornea Clinical Committee of ASCRS.
Her clinical practice is divided between patient care, teaching and research focusing on corneal surgery and leading advancements in the application of the femtosecond laser for corneal transplantation as well as surgical innovations in severe ocular surface disease. Her clinical focus includes refractive cataract and corneal surgery, complex intraocular lens surgery, and all types of corneal and ocular surface transplantation. Her research is widely published in numerous peer-reviewed journals, and she serves as editor of Steinert’s Cataract Surgery and sole editor of In-Office Corneal Procedures.
Dr. Farid established the Severe Ocular Surface Disease Program at UCI, the first Center of Excellence as an extension of the Holland Foundation for Sight Restoration, to deliver advanced care to patients and shape the future of this specialized field. She implements The Cincinnati ProtocolTM, a comprehensive, coordinated team approach to restore sight to patients with severe ocular surface disease who are blind from limbal stem cell failure.
Marjan enjoys playing the violin, traveling with her family, and volunteering in community-building efforts outside of work.
